Kunjungan pertama saya ke India ditahun 1984  (My first visit to India in 1984)

This visit is actually within the framework of my job at PERTAMINA, which at that time was to assist in preparing the establishment of an AROMATIC CENTER that among others was to produce an petrochemical product PTA (acronym of PURIFIED TEREPHTALIC ACID). This substance is used on a large scale, also in Indonesia, in the production of Polyester Fibers (also for Polyester Plastics).

Since for the laboratory under my supervision the PTA basic material was still new, we arranged a pre study for the whole staff at the Textile Laboratory in Bandung. As is well known the Polyester Fiber can be produced in various  deniers and can be used as continuous filament as well as staple fiber, pure or blended with natural as well as other synthetic  fibers.  Therefore I made a comparison study visit to a laboratory in a neighboring country with tropical climate that  is well known in its level of expertise in textile technology. That laboratory is in Mumbai

I stayed at a beautiful hotel: Hotel Oberoi (that also cane under attack at the 2004 terror, and did a small trip of sightseeing to the local bazaar to look for a souvenir of the Indian handicraft. I also visited the ” Gate of India” and made a picture of the prestigious Hotel that also was a target of the 2004 terror at which it was seriously burnt). On the following I  made a trip to the Elephanta Caves, having to make small boat trip of about half an hour. I made some pictures which are (of course) not of professional quality or as those shown on this blog.

Because at that time (1984) I had no Notebook yet or no internet at all at was totally uninformed about the object I visited, only through my naked eye  the similarity with the Hindu sites at Central Java came very clear to me only that the sculptures at this site were of gigantic dimensions and to me give an impression of being more dynamic.

On the following Monday I visited The Textile laboratory and saw the equipment for spinning and weaving in India now, but also before. This is a story of one of my overseas visit   that combines business with sight-seeing.
